Ralph G. Beargeon, Jr., 81 of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at a local hospital.
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Ralph was born on Sept. 15, 1940, in Beemer, Neb., to Ralph Beargeon, Sr., and Amelia (Gagna) Beargeon. The family lived in Beemer until moving to a farm near Walthill, Neb.; later they moved to Emerson and finally to Sioux City. He attended a country school outside Walthill, Sacred Heart School in Emerson, Neb., and Heelan High School in Sioux City, where he graduated in 1959.
He served in the United States Army National Guard from 1962 to 1968.
Ralph married Frances "Fran" Blake on Oct. 9, 1965, at Cathedral of the Epiphany Church in Sioux City.
He worked at Kregge's after high school where he met his future wife. He then went to work at Sioux Tools in 1963, and worked for them for 39 years until they closed in 2002.
Ralph loved sports, especially basketball, which he played while attending Sacred Heart School in Emerson, and football. He was Sioux City Journal's Carrier of the Year for Emerson in 1957. He also collected model tractors and cars. Upon his retirement, he was able to enjoy putting his daughter, JoAnn, on the bus to go to work at Mid-Step Services.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fran, and their daughter, JoAnn, both of Sioux City; four sisters, Juliann Scott (Richard), Cheryl Beargeon, Jeannie Heuton, and Sherry Newman (Mike), all of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother, Donald; and sisters, Karen Uhl and Sharon Beargeon.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Scott, Jimmy Heuton, Randy Uhl, Ricky Uhl, and James Blake IV, and Kirk Scott.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Mid-Step Services.
