Roger Bartels Obituary

Roger Bartels

December 15, 1936 - July 20, 2025

Roger LeRoy Bartels, 88, of Hubbard, Neb., passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City, Neb. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Funeral Home in Sioux City. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church, 1753 G Ave, Dakota City, Neb. 68731, or Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Fund, 820 Nebraska St, Sioux City, Iowa 51101.

Roger was born the son of Roy and Marie (Oehlerking) Bartels on December 15, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1955. Roger married Nancy Lynne Myers on October 27, 1956, in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home on the family farm outside of Hubbard, Neb., and enjoyed almost 67 years together.

Roger's family was his pride and joy, especially his granddaughters.

Roger was a life-long member of Salem Lutheran Church. He was actively involved in multiple organizations in the community, including Farm Bureau, Omadi Masonic Lodge #5, Abu Bekr Shrine, and Cornhusker Shrine Club. In addition to farming, he enjoyed flying and providing transportation to those in need, through the Abu Bekr Flying Fez, Flying Samaritans, and Angel Flights organizations.

In 2019, he was delighted to receive the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award for 100 years of continued ownership within the family. Roger and Nancy participated in the Rural-Urban Exchange program sponsored by the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce and in a global agricultural exchange in the 1970s, hosting farmers from Swaziland and Nepal.

Farming is both a rewarding and challenging occupation. Roger, along with his wife, Nancy, and son, Jeff, were the foundation of the success of Bartels Ag, Inc.

Roger is survived by his children, Jeff Bartels of Hubbard, Neb., and Cindy Cunningham of Loveland, Colo.; grandchildren, Jessica Cunningham, Dayna (Deric) Hoch, and Brooke Bartels; brother-in-law, Tom (Nancy) Myers of Green Valley, Ariz.; nieces, nephews, and their families, Vicki Townsend, Kris Bobier Coates, Rhonda Bailey, Bryan Rockwell, Brad Jorgensen, Greg Jorgensen, Craig Jorgensen, and Curt Jorgensen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy Bartels; son, Steve Bartels; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Darold Bobier, Joyce and Ronald Rockwell, Marilyn and Harlan Jorgensen; nephew, Randy Bobier; and his in-laws, Vernon and Juanita Myers.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Whispering Creek and Pleasant View Care Center for their excellent care of Roger.

Cindy, Jeff, and your entire family, we are so very sorry to hear of Roger's passing.
I only knew him through Steve, and I know that his family, and helping others, meant absolutely everything to him.

Roger said a true friend does not bail you out of jail but nods to you and we had one heck of a lot of fun last night, right ?
