Roger William Green, the son of William and Erna (Zobel) Green, was born Jan. 4, 1943, in Charter Oak, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on a farm Near Climbing Hill, Iowa, where he received his education, graduating from Climbing Hill High School. After graduation, he moved to Sioux City where he worked for Tower Communications welding propane tanks. When Tower closed he was a Route Salesman for Omar Bread Company.
Roger married Sharon "Sherrie" Wilcox on April 20, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church from 1965 to 2018 at which time Roger and Sherrie transferred their membership to Bethany Lutheran Church, but never forgot their Trinity family.
An opportunity for him to move his family to Spencer came in 1965 where he started in maintenance at Jefferson School. He spent a year at Witt Sales, and spent eight years laying carpet for Steffen Furniture. He did outside sales for Modern Business Supply Store until their closure. He was definitely meant to be a salesman. He had the gift of gab and enjoyed all the businesses he called on in the Sheldon and surrounding areas. During the years after that he sold Kabotas, John Deeres and went back to laying carpet on his own.
In 1965 after moving to Spencer, Roger coached Pony League baseball until his son was old enough to play. His team always came in first or second place. He played church softball, bowled on league and loved to play golf.
In 1970 Roger joined Toastmasters which enhanced his public speaking abilities. He was also a member of Sertoma, Spencer Municipal Golf Course, and Jaycees. He was very active in Jaycees and was named Jaycee of the Year in 1975. In 1987 he was awarded the Sertoman award for outstanding service to the community.
He served on Spencer's Board of Adjustment for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie of Spencer; a son, Shannon (Debbie) Green of Spencer; three daughters, Angi Hill of Gilbert, Ariz., Dawn (Clayton) Fletcher of Spencer, and Darci Green of Hugo, Minn.; grandchildren, Tyler (Kahlie) Green and Nicole Green, Maurissa (Darrian Woods), Shawntae and Gabrielle Hill, Rylan Green-Hassan, Miles (Cody) Fletcher, Carlee Fletcher, and Olivia Fletcher; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet (William) Meyer of Novato, Calif.; one brother, Alan (Randi) Green of Hutchison, Kan.; other relatives; and many, many friends.
