Steven Matney, 72, of Belton and formerly of Homer passed away at his home in Belton on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
Graveside Service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Omaha Valley Cemetery in Homer. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.
Steve was born on March 14, 1950, in Sioux City to Fred and Opal Matney of Homer. He grew up and graduated from Homer High School. Steve spent his best years living in Fort Myers, Fla., with his wife, Kathleen. He worked as a pipefitter and was one of the best in the business. He loved fishing and golfing in his spare time, as well as watching football and golf. After the loss of his wife, he moved to Belton to be close to his children.
Steve is survived by his children, Brett (Nelda) Matney of Belton, Teri (Larry) Brown of Belton, Ernest Matney of Blanco, Texas, Melissa (Dave) Woolsey of Blanco, and Matthew (Dawn) Matney of Temple, Texas; their mother, Jan Matney of Blanco; his brothers, Mick (Marchell) Matney of South Sioux City and Jerry (Myla) Matney of Tecumseh, Kan.; sisters, Debbie (Darrel) Davis of Amarillo, Texas, and Donna (Rick) Valadez of Mesa, Ariz.; granddaughters, Sarah, Maggie, Abigail, and Eden; and four great-granddaughters.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Opal Matney; wife, Kathleen; and sister, Diana Matney.
