Antoinette V. "Peggy" Carter
SPRINGFIELD - Antoinette V. "Peggy" Carter, 96, of Springfield, died at 10:08 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013, at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville.
Peggy was born June 13, 1916, in Riverton, the daughter of Nunzio and Rosa Antonacci Vespa. She married Harold E. Carter and he preceded her in death on November 30, 1986.
Peggy worked at Springfield Shoe Factory and worked at Munitions plant in Illiopolis during WWII. She was a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church and enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and crafts, watching movies, shopping, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. During her younger days, she spent many nights roller-skating and bowling.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two sons: Robert (wife, Nan-cy) Carter of Ottawa, and Randy (wife, Joyce) Carter of Springfield; one daughter, Dianne (husband, Paul Simmons) Carter of Glover, VT; five grandchildren: Mary and Matthew (wife, Melissa) Carter, Michael (wife, Brenda) Carter, Jamie (husband, Brandon) Sing-er, and Benjamin Simmons; and four great-grandchildren: Connor and Kyle Carter, Braylon and Jayla Singer.
Private family ceremonies will be held.
