Charles Bramley Obituary
DIVERNON - Charles R. "Bob" Bramley, 85, of Divernon died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Auburn Nursing and Rehabilitation.
He was born Dec. 2, 1921, in Palmyra, the son of Chester and Pearl Reed Bramley. He married Carolyn Rettberg on Dec. 27, 1947, in Divernon.
He graduated from Divernon High School in 1939 and St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in 1947. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He owned Bramley Funeral Homes in Divernon and Auburn for 58 years. He served as treasurer of Brush Creek Cemetery for more than 50 years. He retired from the U.S. post office in Divernon in 1972. He helped organize and start Community Bank of Divernon. He was former treasurer of the Divernon School District for 30 years, village of Divernon for 49 years, Divernon Fire District, Divernon Sportsman Club and Divernon Homecoming Committee. He was a life member of Arthur J. Quick Legion Post 277, Divernon Lions Club, Divernon Masonic Lodge 1158 AF&AM, Ansar Shrine, Illinois Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and Oak Leaf Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Marcy (husband, Tom) Burrus of Arenzville and Ginny Fanning of Jacksonville; son, Tim Bramley of Divernon; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Bramley Funeral Home in Divernon and one hour prior to services at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at Divernon Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Floyd Disney officiating.
Burial will be in Brush Creek Cemetery in Divernon, with the Auburn VFW Post 8157 and American Legion Post 278 conducting military honors.
Memorials may be made to Divernon Emergency Squad, Brush Creek Cemetery, Auburn Emergency Squad, Auburn Ambulance or any charity to help any community, which is what Bob did his whole life.

Bob was one of the sweetest men I have ever known. I loved him just as many who knew him did. I will miss his smile and the twinkle in his eyes, his kind words, his loving heart.
I asked him once how he could do what he did. He told me that sometimes it was really hard because he knew so many he took care of and their families. Bob, this is one of those hard ones for many of us.

Mrs.,Tim and Family. You know how our hearts go out to you. Know too, that you are in our prayers. My Mom, Laura Benjamin and Jerry Humke both asked that I include them in sending this. As you know when I worked for the Coroner your dad was one of my jurors and I called him to serve when I needed someone to fill in; he was always available. He remembered me and that impressed me. I grew up with Bob and Carolyn always keeping an eye on all the kids around town. They always made you feel important because they always remember you, even to this day. I will miss Bob greatly.
