I have many good memories of time spent with Charlie during high school years and after. He was a great friend and a true gentleman and like others have said he was a friend to everyone he ever met.

Sooo... Sad to hear of Chuck's passing.Chuck endeared himself to a whole group of soccer players over half of his age. This was done in so many ways. His enthusiasm for the game and his spirit of competition. His sincere and honest ways he related to people from all walks of life. So much laughter. The World could use more Chuck Stoeckel's. On a lighter note:One thing this man could do that no other normal man could. When he put his hands together to clap. You would swear someone was slapping wood blocks together!! I'm sure God is asking him right now, as we often did, If he would "do it again". Rest In Peace Chuck. I am a better man for knowing you.

The Stoeckels lived down the street from us on Lowell Avenue in the Reischs former home, I believe. As a little kid I really looked up to him. RIP, Charlie.

Sooo...Sad to hear of Chucks passing. Chuck endeared himself to a group of soccer players at least half of his age. He did this in various ways. Thru his enthusiasm for the game and the spirit of competition. Thru his open and honest way he accepted people of all walks of life. Chuck will be remembered for all of these things and more, including the uncanny way this man could clap his hands in such a way that it sounded like amplified wood blocks coming together. You had to hear it to believe it. I'm sure God is asking him to do it again, for him.Rest in Peace Chuck. A good man has left us. The world needs more Chucks

Shortly after I began working at around ISBE around 1977, I met Chuck on the ISBE employee council. Chuck had the ability to instantly make a personal connection with people he met and got to know. Chuck had strong convictions and a devilish sense of humor and he was a wonderful person to know. It was sad to hear of Chuck passing. My sincere condolences go to his family and friends.

I met Chuck when I started working at ISBE decades ago. I knew Chuck pretty well as we both worked in the same division through the years. Chuck was always a gentleman, a man with principles and deep conviction.
Chuck was a great friend, ever cheerful and had a joke to tell. He was clearly proud of his family, often sharing news of wife and children with us his colleagues. Chuck was a very decent human being, kind, and generous. We will all miss you, Chuck. Rest In Peace in the bosom of the Lord in whom believed. My deepest condolences to Earlene and family.

I worked with Chuck at the Illinois State Board of Education and he was quite the jokester. I will never forget the days when the boss lady would walk around everyone's cubicle just to see if we were working. Sometimes when she walked by Chuck's cube, he would be sitting in his chair with his head down and the boss lady would say, wake up Chuck. That's when Chuck would sit up with a bottle of whiteout in hand and say....I'm just trying to get the cap off this bottle of whiteout! Unfortunately, the boss lady never bought it. Chuck was just an all around wonderful, funny, do anything for ya kind of guy who will forever be deeply missed!

Charlie and I went to high school in Mt. Pulaski where we became good friends. Charlie and I took a small plane ride with Charlie’s brother, Loren who was taking flying lessons. We went through so much wind turbulence that we were glad to get back on the ground. I’m so sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. Prayers fo the family

We want to express our deepest sympathy for your loss. I didn't know your Father & Grand-Father other than the times he used to Referee B-Ball games at Trinity. He was obviously a true Christian and lived by God's Teaching's with all he accomplished and volunteered for in life. May the Lord Comfort your entire Family during this time. Our Thoughts and Prayer's are with you.

My condolences to all the family; I had the opportunity to work with Chuck many times as a basketball official and I will never forget how he treated players and his partners. He always gave his best, and was a great teacher of the game and of life to everyone he met. I was always proud to say that Chuck and I worked together, and we always had a great time. May he rest in the peace of Christ forever.

To Earlene and family, I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck. Nearly 50 years ago Chuck was my first boss at the Illinois State Board of Education, the beginning of a long career for me with the agency. Chuck taught me the job I took over from him, and through the years we became good friends sharing work experiences and volunteering together with the annual Friend In Deed holiday delivery program. Although Chuck and I lost touch with one another after I retired and moved away from Springfield, thoughts of him today continue to evoke good memories.
