SPRINGFIELD, IL - David Brent Dailey, 59, of Springfield, died at 10:45 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born Nov. 15, 1955, in Springfield, to George and Kathryn Dailey. He married Diane Daniels Jenkins on June 4, 2010, and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dan C. Dailey.

He was an avid Franklin D. Roosevelt and WWII historian and loyal Jets fan. When younger, Dave did stand-up comedy as Spaztik Man. His favorite activity was to spend time with friends. He was a 1974 graduate of Springfield High School and was on the Junior Varsity Wrestling Squad. He attended MacMurray and Lincoln Colleges.

David was a past Chairman of the Springfield Disabilities Commission, and served on the State Use Committee, Statewide Independent Living Council, Illinois Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities, and several others. Dave was a very special person, he loved his work at IDOT and the student workers (SPWD's)that he represented and would do anything to help them become success driven. Dave's students made up the most important aspect of his work and his life, the foundation was laid and for that the students will always be grateful, Dave will be missed and this is certain, but his heartfelt acts of kindness, affection, and loyalty will never be forgotten, though his earthly work is completed the flame on the torch will always burn, God has given you rest and we must continue to carry the torch, all the way to the finish line. Gone but never forgotten!

Words could never fully express our heartfelt and sincere sympathy. Dave was so dedicated to helping others become the best people they could be -- professionally, life skills, personally. He has been an inspiration to our entire family -- especially our son, Brandon. He was Brandon's mentor, guiding light, role model, advocate. He and Brandon enjoyed history and humor. Brandon's life became better and more fulfilled working with and sharing time with Dave at IDOT. Dave positively touched the lives of everyone who knew him, or, have now read about him. His personality and zest for life and work speak volumes about this amazing man and all he accomplished himself and for others. Wishing Dave's wife and family: a song in your hearts; a rainbow after the rain; sunshine after the clouds; peace; harmony; cherished memories. Dave is now a special guardian angel for so many due to his kindness and caring on earth.

Although David was my student back in the 70's, it is I who learned from him. His tenacity, his perseverance - his sense of humor through all adversity - was incredible. His "children" will miss his advocacy and the security with which he surrounded them.

David, we are pleased you are resting in Perfection now. Enjoy the beauty and the peace that surrounds you.

So sorry for the loss to the family, I have known Dave for 30+ years. He was a great guy and a good friend to me. He was a hard worker. He was always happy and joking and always made me feel better when I was having a bad day or week. I will miss him a lot. Thoughts and prayers will be going out to the family. God Bless you Dave.

I have been blessed to have known Dave for over 30 years as a co-worker at SOS, IDOT and more importantly as a friend.

Dave was a jewel, a tireless advocate for those with disabilities and an inspiration for the able bodied.

Dave helped hundreds if not thousands of capable, intelligent and hard working people with disabilities to gain State employment and other needed assistance.

I still remember speaking to Dave when I received a couple of "his" new hires back in the 1980's...... a deaf Vietnamese lady and a Viet Vet with PTSD on the same day, to work in the same processing area.

I was concerned, I asked Dave if he was setting me up to be the first manager to have a murder in his work area. He laughed, "Hey, the Viet Vet guy could say anything he wanted, she won't hear him, there won't be any problems."

He was right, everything worked out extremely well, they were both very good workers and very good people. But Dave knew that, with his sense of humor Dave put me at ease and he helped two excellent people. Just two of many, many more.

That is what drove Dave, Helping people, many, many capable people. Those who were helped are Dave's legacy and an admirable legacy it is.

Dave, we'll miss your humor, your wit and your friendship. Thank you for sharing your life with us, you were a Blessing that will last my life-time.
