Elaine M. Smith
CHATHAM - Elaine M. Smith, 75, of Chatham, died at 5:15 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was born December 25, 1937, in Bushnell, Ill., to Norman A. and Dorothy Chipman Phillips.
She is survived by her daughter, Tara Unland (partner, Heather Kemnetz) of Springfield; son, Tyler (Amy) Smith of Auburn; granddaughter, Hannah Smith; one step-grandchild, Matthew Kemnetz; one sister, Shirley (Ed) Gray of Springfield; two nephews, Andrew Hamilton of Macomb and J.W. Pierceall of Springfield; two great-nieces, one great-great-niece, and her dog, Chance.
Her parents and one sister, Beverly Jean Phillips, preceded her in death.
Elaine worked for many years as a realtor and assisted in closings around the country. She was good at organization and enjoyed sewing, interior decorating and gardening.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home.
Graveside Service: 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Chatham Cemetery with Pastor Kres Lipscomb officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Lewis Memorial Christian Village for the compassionate attention shown to Elaine.
