FLORA - Frances C. Haskins left this life on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008.
She was the first of three daughters born to Frank M. Chaffin and Elizabeth V. Chaffin of Clay City. Mrs. Haskins was the last survivor of the three "Chaffin girls": Frances, Eleanor, and Bernice. She resided in Flora during her entire adult life.
She married Thomas P. Haskins Jr. on June 14, 1942. They were married in the First United Methodist Church in Flora. The marriage was performed by Mr. Haskins' father, the Rev. Thomas P. Haskins Sr. While her husband served in World War II, she resided with her mother and two sisters in Flora.
The Haskinses were the proprietors of Haskins Men's Wear in Flora and worked side by side for many years. Mrs. Haskins later became the receptionist at the First National Bank in Flora. Mr. Haskins was the manager of the Country Squire in Flora. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Flora and Beta Sigma Phi. Fran was an avid bridge player and a member of the Elks Thursday Afternoon Bridge Club.
The Haskinses lived in Flora after their retirement and enjoyed the friendship of many close personal friends and had a close relationship with their families. Tom Haskins left this life in 1982. Fran's sisters, Eleanor Hudson of Springfield and Bernice "Bea" Stanford of Flora passed away prior to the death of their older sister.
Fran is survived by her son, Thomas P. Schanzle-Haskins (wife, Ellen Schanzle-Haskins) of Springfield and Elizabeth "Trudi" Haskins of Flora.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday, Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at the funeral home.
