Grace Kessler Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Grace R. Kessler, 91, of Springfield passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Springfield, the daughter of Joseph and Ida Wolfson Katz. She married Wilbur Kessler in Springfield on March 30, 1945; he preceded her in death in 1992.

Mrs. Kessler owned and operated Springfield Furniture Co., where she worked for more than 73 years. She graduated from Springfield High School and Springfield College in Illinois. She was a member of Temple B'rith Sholom, where she was a member of the Temple Sisterhood and Hadassah.

She is survived by two sons, Mark (wife, Kathy) Kessler and Gary Kessler, both of Springfield; two sisters, Dorothy Franklin of Chicago and Florence (husband, Marvin) Treiber of Northbrook; two nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur; and sister, Helen Feinberg.

Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen St., where friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, with Rabbi Michael Datz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Friends and family will meet at the Gate on Monument Avenue at 9:45 a.m. Monday to process to the gravesite. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 675 Linton Ave., Springfield, IL 62703
