Hazel KOHLBECKER Obituary

Hazel Maxine Kohlbecker

TUSCOLA, IL - Hazel Maxine Kohlbecker, 86, of Tuscola, Ill., formerly of Springfield, Ill., and Venice, Fla., passed away at 8:25 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015, at Carriage Crossing in Arcola, Ill.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 E. Van Allen St., Tuscola, IL with Father Angel Sierra as celebrant.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2015, at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 S. Main St., Tuscola, IL.

Graveside services will be held at noon, Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Ill.

Hazel was born June 12, 1929, in Raleigh, N.C., the daughter of Jesse C. and Mary Wester Ball. She married U.S. Marine Sgt. Charles A. Kohlbecker, Sr. on May 14, 1949, at Community Church in Havelock, N.C. He preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2002.

Survivors include her children: Charles Jr. (Joanne), Rose (Michael) Hileman, William Gerald (Dena), Timothy (Lynette), Paul (Katrina), Carol (Steve) Feld, Diane (Bruce) Kauffman, Mark (Julie), Sandy (Steve) Bates and Julie (Lance) Little; 28 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Hilda Boyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jesse Gray Ball and Maurice Ball; and sister, Ruby Bass.

Hazel personified what it meant to be a devoted wife and selfless mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She had a positive impact on the many lives she touched. In her later years she enjoyed walking, whether it be on the beach or in the park. Besides spending time with her extensive family, her interests included: being a member of the Altar Society, reading, crossword puzzles, baking, attending her grandchildren's sports activities and never forgetting a birthday or anniversary.

The family would like to thank her caregivers while she resided at home and Carriage Crossing Senior Living, LLC of Arcola, Ill.

Memorials are suggested to: The Lewy Body Dementia Association or TCHS Athletic Fund.

Dear Rose and Cousins,

On behalf of the Kern Family, we were saddened to read of the death of your Mother. She and your Dad were favorites of my parents Ernie and Marie Kern and Aunt Josephine Johnson. All of the family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are in our thoughts and prayers. We lost contact with your Mother over the course of the past 3-4 years and always missed her cards at Christmas time.

Steve and Carol,

So sorry to hear about your mother. I know she was a wonderful mom! I loved all her care packages when we were in college! You are all in my prayers.
