Ida McCarty Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Ida M. McCarty, 97, of Springfield died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Oak Terrace Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 2, 1911, in Raymond, the daughter of Henry and Lena Bockewitz Millot. She married Russell Guymon on Nov. 16, 1934; he preceded her in death in 1964. She married Charles W. "Walt" McCarty on Sept. 15, 1972; he preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Everett Millot; two sisters, Ruth Schneider and Eva Raylots; a stepdaughter, Marilyn Turnbull; and three stepsons, Robert "Bob," Jim and Richard McCarty.

Mrs. McCarty, a resident of Springfield most of her life, worked at Springfield Dry Goods for many years, co-owned and operated Russell's Market and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Blue Ridge Club. She attended Brown's Business College and was a member of a kitchen band in Mesa, Ariz., and in Springfield.

Surviving are three stepsons, William "Bill" (wife, Sue) McCarty, Walter McCarty and Donald (wife, Jane) McCarty, all of Springfield; 28 stepgrandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren, step great-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will be Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Leukemia Foundation.
