Jason Nagle Obituary

Jason B. Nagle 1972 - 2017
Springfield, IL—Jason B. Nagle passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 27, 2017 after enduring a short battle with cancer. Born on January 15, 1972 in Urbana, IL, Jason was the oldest son of Richard (Dick) and Cynthia (Cindy) Nagle. He attended Springfield Southeast High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, majoring in Plant Biology and Zoology.
Jason's love for nature and the outdoors began when he enrolled in a Scouting program at Sandburg Elementary School and continued to grow while he proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scout of America, Troop 216.
Jason's passion for the outdoors led him toward a career path in environmental studies, and he spent time working for the Missouri Department of Conservation, the National Park Service in Gatlinburg TN, and the Bureau of Land Management in Southern California. While in Springfield, he was employed by Vern LaGesse and Associates and Greenview Nursery sales department. Jason always found joy in helping others find the beauty of the outdoors in their own way.
In recent years he spent many hours volunteering for the Friends of Sangamon Valley, Adams Wildlife Sanctuary, and Lincoln Memorial Gardens. Jason also enjoyed expressing his artistic talents through both art and music and loved playing blue grass music with friends on his mandolin. Jason was a loyal Cubs Fan and like many enjoyed their 2016 winning season.
Jason is survived by his parents, his younger brother Brian (Kristen Moore) and their three children, Benjamin, Bridget and Molly. Jason's extended family includes many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Margaret and Richard Gregerson and Jack and Marjorie Nagle of Gibson City, his Uncle John Brooks of Petersburg, IL, and his Aunt Ann Nagle Day of Estes Park, CO.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd, Springfield. Jason was a lifetime member of Laurel United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held at Laurel United Methodist Church, 631 S. Grand Avenue West, Springfield IL on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017, at 12:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family before the service between 10:00 AM and 11:45 AM.

This is very sad news. My condolences to Jason's friends and family. Jason was my go to guy for garden help and even recently helped me select the perfect hydrangea variety for a problem area in my garden. He had such great knowledge and willingness to help. He also did a lot to help maintain the hiking/bike trails adjacent to my neighborhood, for which I was always grateful. He will be missed.

Jason was one of the kindest and most accepting souls I have ever known. He took me in when I joined troop 216. His friendship was offered unconditionally. He always was supportive of my dreams. Three years into my college experience, I transferred to SIU, where Jason welcomed me with his easy smile. He and and his friends took me in by the grace of Jason, and I can never repay that debt. I am going to miss you and your easy smile...

So very sad to hear of Jason's passing. I always enjoyed when he would jump in with his mandolin when we were playing music. Anytime I had a plant question, he would jump right in with suggestions and info. He was a great guy, and he touched so many people. So sorry to his family and friends, he will be missed.

Dick, Cindy, and Family...

Our hearts are broken for you. Jason was such a nice person, and always had time to stop and chat. We will miss seeing him putting around in the yard, walking through the woods behind our houses, and riding his bike up the street with his backpack on. So glad that he got to see his "Cubbies" take the championship. May God give you comfort in the days ahead. Keeping you in thought and prayer.

Cindy, Dick, and Brian,
I was shocked and saddened when Eddie let me know of Jason's passing. I remember Jason growing up through the years of scouting in Troop 216. Jason loved nature and being outdoors. Recently, I was pleasantly surprised to find Jason working at GreenView where he helped me select appropriate plants and a tree at GreenView, as we caught up on family news.

Jason loved every living thing, he was a kindhearted soul and always took time to enjoy conversation. His ready smile and easy helpful manner will be missed.

I'm half a world away from Springfield, helping Eric's family with the birth of baby number 3. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May God's love give you comfort as you adjust to the loss of Jason.

With my sincere sympathy,
