Katherine Hackman

Katherine Hackman, age 99, of Athens, IL passed away on Saturday September 18, 2010 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her son, David Hackman of Springfield. She has been blessed with seven grandchildren, Lisa (Carlos) Chua, Denise (Mike) Gibler, Lori Demuzio, Mike (Karen) Hackman, Jo (Dave) Lagerhausen, Julie (Corey) Smith and Vicki (Gary) Goodnight. There are also eighteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Katherine has left her family with a lifetime of precious memories. Katherine was born and raised in Petersburg, the daughter of John and Anna (Day) Parkinson. After marrying Alwin (Bo) on October 31, 1931, they lived in Athens and worked for many years on the family farm. They raised two sons Harold (Fuzz) Hackman (deceased) and David Hackman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alwin in 2001, her son Harold (Fuzz) in 1987 and great-granddaughter Kelsey Chua in 1988.

Katherine was instrumental in creating the original Athens Library. She served as an election judge for many years in Menard County. Katherine was an active member in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Bowling team.

Visitation will be held at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, on Monday, September 20, 2010 from 12:00 PM until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will be held at Indian Point Cemetery near Athens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Athens Library, Athens BLS, Menard County Rescue Squad, Athens Fire Department, Lions Club or No Mountain too High Church in Athens, IL.

To Janet and your family, I am so sorry for your loss. I know that Katherine was so special to you, and many in LA have heard of her turning 99 on 9/9, which I thought was so awesome. I hope that GG Eileen will be around for all of us at least that long, and go as peacefully as Katherine did, knowing how much she was loved. Sending Hugs, Sister Anne
