Springfield, IL—Lyle Bennett Lenkart, 56, of rural Chatham, died at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at St. John's Hospital.
He was born on January 12, 1965, in Springfield, the son of Ben and Annie Lenkart.
Lyle graduated from Glenwood High School and went on to become a "master of all trades." He was a lifelong resident of the Springfield and Chatham area. Lyle enjoyed taking care of life on the hill, family, and splitting wood. He also enjoyed spending summers in Wisconsin and winter getaways in Naples, FL.
Lyle was preceded in death by his mother, Annie in 2013 and his brother, Larry in 2018.
He is survived by his father, Bennett W. Lenkart; sister, Laurel (Walter) Howe; nephew, Alex (Alexis) Howe; sister-in-law, Karen Lenkart; niece, Maggie Lenkart; cousins, including Chris (Annie) Lundberg, Brian (Mary) Lundberg, and the Herrmanns; aunt, Jeannie (Wayne) Lundberg; lifelong best friend, Mike Godart; and his cat, Kitty Kat.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering: and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A memorial ceremony will follow at 3:00 pm with the Very Rev. Christopher House officiating. COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings and limiting attendance to 50 guests at one time.
Burial will be held at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
