Martin F. Gleason
ELKHART, IL - Martin F. Gleason, 88, passed away at 8:36 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.
Martin was born May 19, 1926, in Elkhart, Ill., son of Martin P. and Vedus Thompson Gleason. He married Norma Jeanne Hagan on Feb. 19, 1949, in Lincoln, Ill.; she preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2007.
Martin is survived by his children: William (Mary) Gleason of Middletown, Ill., Larry (Martha) Gleason of Sherman, Ill., Robert (Nina) Gleason of Elkhart, Ill., Timothy (Kristine) Gleason of Elkhart, Ill., Todd (Claranne) Gleason of Mahomet, Ill., and Jay (Laurie) Gleason of Princeton, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norma Smith of Oswego, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.
Martin was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhart and was on the church board. He was a lifelong farmer in Hurlbut and Corwin Townships in Logan County. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He served on the following boards: Soil Conservation, Elkhart Grade School and Logan County Farm Bureau. He was the Elkhart 4-H leader for nine years; he played and managed baseball teams in Elkhart and Lincoln, and was an avid golfer.
Memorial service for Martin will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhart with Father Glenn Fontana officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Burial will follow the service at Elkhart Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be given to: St. Patrick's Church or Alzheimer's Association.

Thinking of your family at this time. Marty was always so kind and thoughtful to my grandparents. Marty knew that Sunday was our day to visit Steve & Mary Walsh and he always made sure the "lane" was clear of snow. Prayers to the entire family.
