Lascelles, Sr.
HAVANA, IL - Melvin Lascelles, Sr., 90, passed away at 5:49 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1923, in Bath the seventh son of Frank and Louise (Turner) Lascelles. He graduated from Bath-Lynchburg High School and was a lifelong farmer in Mason County.
On March 15, 1945, in Havana, he married Vera Schmidt who preceded him in death in 2011 after 66 years of marriage. Melvin is survived by three children, Melba (John) Upton of Jacksonville, Marla (Frederick) Weimer of Easton and Melvin (Karla) Lascelles, Jr., of Easton; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Blodgett of Havana; and numerous nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Havana, a director of the Mason County Farm Bureau and a trustee for the Crane Creek Township. Melvin enjoyed hunting, spending time with his family and friends and spent numerous hours serving his church.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Central Christian Church in Havana. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Melvin was a friend to all and will be truly missed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Christian Church in Havana. Online condolences can be made to www.hurleyfh.com.

Uncle Melvin never met a stranger, never had an unkind word for anyone and he loved The Lord. He will be truly missed daily in Mason City! He would always have a hug and call you sweetie or say "How Do" to whomever stopped to talk to him! We Love you Uncle Melvin!
