I knew Nolan as Woody's dad. When I was young Woody and I played little league together. I remember having a tough day in the outfield. Nolan walked along the outfield fence while I was in rightfield and lent me some kind words and gentle encouragemnet that my error wasn't as big deal and that everything would be OK. That meant a lot to me and I still remember that. Everytime I met Nolan as an adult either at his house in Roscoe or at his son's house in Romeoville he was very nice, thoughtful, and a pleasure to be around. My deepest thoughts go out to everyone who is effected by his loss.

I met Nolan for the first time on Thursday, at the Fitness Zone in South Beloit. Nolan walked in and greeted me, a complete stranger, by saying, "Hello, how are you today? Nice to see you here!" After exchanging pleasantries, I was surprised and humbled by his sincerity and kindness. His smile was genuine and he left me with the impression that he truly was concerned about me with his random acts of kindness, including waving goodbye with that huge smile that left me knowing that I just met a very nice man. As he waved goodbye and I pulled away in my car, I was disappointed in myself that I didn't introduce myself to him, but rationalized I would do so the next time I saw him. Sadly, I won't get that chance. They say the true character of a man is displayed when no one is looking. I probably was the last person to see Nolan and I want the family to know his last hour or so was filled with a happiness, genuiness, and concern for others! May God Bless Nolan and his family!
