SPRINGFIELD - Richard W. DeSollar, 71, of Springfield died Tuesday, September 27, 2011, in his home.
He was born January 23, 1940 in Paducah, KY, the son of Donald James and Doris Ellen Trainor. He married Jeanne Hults on June 4, 1960 at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown.
Surviving is his wife Jeanne DeSollar of Springfield; three children Leslie (husband Jack) Skelley of Wilton, IA, Amy Jennings of Springfield, and Rick (wife Lynn) DeSollar of Sherman; and five grandchildren Ben and Sam Skelley both of Wilton, IA, Amanda Paige and Abigail Jennings and Andrew Hanson all of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. DeSollar graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1958 and then from Bradley University in 1963. He formerly taught chemistry at Hillsboro High School and later began his career with Central Illinois Public Service then Ameren until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus where he organized the monthly newsletter, a member of Springfield Philatelic Society where he served as treasurer, and a member of Utility Coal Conference where he also held an office. Richard enjoyed watching the Indianapolis 500 and had a true passion for his involvement in Mascouten Bay Long Rifles in Beardstown.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Friday, September 30, 2011, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Springfield. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday. Interment will be held at 1:30 PM Friday at St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery in Beardstown.
Memorials have been suggested to Memorial Transplant Services or Civil War Trust.
Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Richard was also a physics teacher at Greenview Community High School in 1963. I wish to thank him for helping me start my career in science. My condolences to his family.

My deep felt sympathy for Richard's family and many friends. Richard always gave a 100% to whatever task he set his eyes on. He was certainly respected and valued at many levels of the Generation Industry. Richard was always bigger than life in many ways and I guess he has just gotten bigger.
