Riley SEVERNS Obituary
Riley Graham Severns
ROCHESTER, IL - Riley Graham Severns, 15, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., as a result of an accident.
Riley was born Nov. 3, 1997, in Alton, the son of Richard L. "Rick" and Dana Gibson Severns.
Riley attended Rochester High School where he played football and pole vaulted on the track team. He enjoyed skateboarding, BMX biking, golfing and hanging out with friends. He loved music and was constantly singing. He was a member of Rochester Christian Church where he was active in the youth group.
He is survived by his parents, Rick and Dana Severns of Rochester; brother, Rorey, and sister, Ellie Severns, both of Rochester; grandparents, Jim and Sandy Thacker Gibson of Taylorville and Russ and Angie Severns of Oakford; and two aunts, Deborah (Steve) Selby of Athens and Teresa (partner, Renee Holt) Severns of Greenview.
There will be a visitation for high school students from 3-4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, followed by a public visitation from 4-7 p.m. at Rochester Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Rochester Christian Church with Rev. Brad Ferris officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to Inner City Missions of Springfield, Ill., and/or to Dinner Seasoned with Love of Taylorville, Ill.

Riley was a great kid who put a smile on the faces of every single person he saw, whether he knew them or not. He was a great singer, skateboarder, and friend. He will be missed. Although he may be gone, he is still with us, watching over us, and through this, he will not be forgotten.

As our community struggles to come to grips with such a devastating loss, we pray that you will find some comfort in knowing what a tremendous impact Riley made on so many of our children, as well as on the adults who had the privilege of knowing him . Rick & Dana, I met you and helped you with pictures at Wal-Mart. My heart has been breaking for you ever since. There are no words that can be uttered to heal the pain and sting of losing a child! I know it all too well. Find ways to remember and honor him, ways to introduce him to those who never met him. The path of grief you have been thrust upon is the hardest thing a parent faces! Please know as hard as it is, it can be navigated.
