Granny

She was our matriarch, the backbone of our family, and the spiritual glue that held us all together. She was a woman who I was proud to call “Granny”. She made a loving effort to be involved in all of our lives, doing those little things that only she could do so that we all felt special in her eyes.

From her chocolate chip cookies and cherry pies, to her infamous turkey and noodles, Granny was not just the creator of these family favorites, but she was actually the main ingredient. It wasn’t ever the secret dough, the amount of salt, or even the cooking time, it was the fact that she made them year in and year out regardless, simply because we asked.

Many times, Granny came through without being asked. I remember getting surprise care packages in college, laced with those same chocolate chip cookies and the smell of home. I remember thinking that even though I was 1000 miles away, my Granny was thinking about me. She was everything a Granny should be and more.

Being one of my biggest supporters in sports, she was always a friendly face in some not-so-friendly places. From grade school to college they traveled across the nation to watch me play. I am not sure I ever got to tell her and Grandpa how much that meant to me.

Finally, one of Granny’s greatest gifts were holiday memories and traditions that I will carry and pass on to my children. Granny always made every occasion special. Easter Egg hunts in the front yard has always been one of my favorites. Thanks to Granny’s persistence in family tradition and family values, my children will be able to experience those same joys with our family.

Granny’s faith in God has been a great influence in my life. To know that she is with God now, helps to ease the sadness in my heart.

I love you Granny and will miss you dearly.

Jenny
