Sam Wright Obituary
ROME, GA - Sam W. Wright, formerly of Springfield, Ill., passed away April 11, 2016, at his residence in Rome, Ga.
Sam was born March 4, 1946, in Chicago, the son of Paul Samuel and Alice Louise Friot Wright. Sam graduated from Feitshans High School and the University of Illinois, receiving a BA and MA in Public Administration.
Sam especially loved his family and dogs, and enjoyed many hobbies: restoring classic cars, traveling, and military history.
Sam worked for the State, including the office of Governor Dan Walker.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 101st Airborne Division, EOD in Vietnam, specializing in explosives demolition; he received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievements.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Wright, daughters, Sheri (Bill) Harris and Winnie Wright; sister, Sarahlou (Matthew) Kmett; granddaughter, Miranda McLean; nephews: Paul (Leslie) and Matthew Kmett; niece, Allison Kmett; and great-niece, Nola Kmett.
Graveside services with military honors will occur at 11:30 a.m. on April 23, at Block 50 of Oak Ridge Cemetery, with the Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating.
