Sandra Kay Birkett

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Sandra Kay Birkett of Springfield passed away May 18, 2015.

She was born Aug. 20, l947, in Springfield, the daughter of Louis Henry Spoor and Norma Corrine Works Spoor. She married James Thomas Birkett at Island Grove Methodist Church on Nov. 5, l982.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, James, and his children: Lisa (Jeffrey) Coyle, Thomas (Kathy) Birkett and James (Michelle) Birkett; and grandchildren, Matt, Ben, Sam, Abby, Ally, Ana and Jake. She is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Johnson and Bonnie (Guy) Hinrichs; two brothers, Ronnie (Janet) Spoor and Robert (Rita) Spoor; brother-in-law, Boyd Darel Johnson; 10 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Sandi was of the Christian faith and was baptized at the Berlin Christian Church in Berlin, Ill.

She earned a B.A. in Human Resource Management from Sangamon State University and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She was employed by Central Illinois Public Service Company for 30 years and Ameren Services for five years, retiring in 2002. She also taught business classes at Lincoln Land Community College.

A graveside service and burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty, Iowa at 1 p.m. on May 22, 2015.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
