Sandra Strickland Obituary
Cromwell, IN—Sandra Lee "Sandy" Strickland, 74, of Cromwell, IN, passed away at 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Parkview Regional Hospital.
Sandy was born on January 6, 1945 in Springfield, the daughter of George and Fanny Isabelle Blackburn Emmett.
Sandy was a graduate of Feitshans High School. For over 35 years she was a dispatcher with the Springfield Police Department where she was affectionally known as "mother." Prior to becoming a dispatcher, she worked for the State of IL for 10 years. Sandy enjoyed riding her motorcycle and was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club. She also loved spending time with her granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Shirley, Mary, and Arlene.
She is survived by her companion, Michael Lowery; one son, James "Ronnie" (wife, Kim) Strickland; one daughter, Christina "Crissy" Strickland of Springfield; two grandchildren, Kristen Strickland-Landers and Lyndsey (husband, Nathan) Jenkins; and two siblings, Fred Emmett of CA and Nancy (husband, John) VonWert Powelson of MO.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation.
Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 675 East Linton, Springfield, IL 62703.
