KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Scott Kish Hanson, 43, of Kansas City, Mo., died at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2009 in Athens.
Scott was born February 22, 1966, in Springfield, the son of George E. and Jeanne Piscitelli Hanson.
Scott graduated from Southeast High School. He attended Springfield College in Illinois, where he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. He received his Bachelor's degree and graduated magna cum laude from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. He also attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Scott was employed as a teacher for nineteen years at St. Luke's Hospital Child Care Center. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and enjoyed playing his bass guitar in several different bands and also remodeling homes.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Beulah and Eddie Hanson and Mary and Ted Piscitelli.
He is survived by his parents, George and Jeanne Hanson of Athens; a brother, Greg E. (wife, Michelle) Hanson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three uncles, Ted (wife, Pat) Piscitelli of Marshalltown, Iowa, Peter (wife, Sue) Hanson of Plano, and Paul Hanson of Campbell, Calif.; a niece and a nephew, Megan and Caleb Hanson; and several cousins and friends.
Per Scott's wishes, his remains were donated for scientific study.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Laurel United Methodist Church, 631 South Grand Ave. W., Springfield, with Rev. John Hamilton officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Hospital, the Brain/Stroke Institution, or to the Child Care Center, 4401 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64111, or to Laurel United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 631 South Grand Ave. W., Springfield, IL 62704, or to the American Cancer Society, 687 E. Linton Ave., Springfield, IL 62703, or to Hospice Care of Illinois, 720 N. Bond St., Springfield, IL 62702-9914.
