SPRINGFIELD - H. Spencer "Spence" Prough, 84, of Springfield, IL, died at 9:43 a.m., Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on November 5, 1926 in Gary, IN to Frank Lewis and Faye Lucile Spencer Prough. He married Elizabeth Skinner on October 18, 1945. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Frank J., Gordon B. and Jack E. Prough.

Mr. Prough has lived in Springfield for the past 5 years. He formerly resided in Venice, FL for 22 years and also resided in Jerseyville, Galesburg and Moline. He worked for State Farm Insurance Companies most of his life. He began as an agent in Jerseyville. He was promoted to the position of Agency Manager for the Galesburg region and later served as agency manager for the Quad Cities. He retired in 1981. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II. He was of the Presbyterian USA faith, and a past member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Venice, FL. He was a 59 year member of Masonic Lodge and was a past master of King Solomon Lodge in Kane, IL and is a current member of Stuart E. Pierson Lodge #50 in Carrollton, IL, a 39 year member of the Scottish Rite Lodge Council Consistory, the ANSAR Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star where he was a past Worthy Patron.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, N. Elizabeth Prough, 2 daughters: Beth (Less) Boucher of Springfield, IL and Amy (Dan) Stumpfl of Franklin, TN; 2 grandsons: David and Sean Stumpfl; 2 sisters: Wanda Lea Rusk of Chesterfield, MO and M. Sue Cooke of Clearwater, FL; 2 brothers: James K. (Donna) Prough of Stoughton, WI and Tom J. Prough of Madison, WI; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Gathering: 9-9:45 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 9:45 a.m.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Tasha Blackburn officiating.

Graveside Service: 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Kane Cemetery, Kane, IL.

Memorials may be made to Shriners' Hospital for Children, American Diabetes Association or the charity of the donor's choice.

I was very honor to meet Mr. Prough. He was a wonderful man. He was like a grandpa to me even though i just meet him for a short time. Im really sorry about your guys loss. He will be missed. He was one tough cookie.
