Wayne M. Tuttle
SPRINGFIELD - Wayne M. Tuttle, 73, of Springfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Arizona Regional Medical Center, Apache Junction, Ariz.
Wayne was born May 5, 1939, in Petersburg, Ill., the son of King Leberyl and Grace Ellen Tuttle. He married Mary Lou Rath on April 3, 1960, in Springfield, Ill.
Wayne was a graduate of Petersburg High School. He was employed by Fiat-Allis Mfg. Company for 27 years until the plant closed; he worked for Springfield School District #186 for 3 years, later working and retiring from the Secretary of State of IL with 15 years.
Wayne was a member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church in Springfield and an Associate member of Crossroads Southern Baptist Church in Apache Junction, Ariz. He served as an usher, was a member of the Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class in both churches, volunteered at Washington Street Mission and was involved in Prison Ministry in Ariz. and Ill. He coached and managed Khoury League baseball and Boys Club basketball teams for several years, was a member of Teamsters 916 and UAW 1027 and wintered eight years in Apache Junction, Ariz.
Wayne dearly loved his family, was always helping others, loved gospel music and giving out gospel tracts, was a die-hard Cub fan, and a friend to many people.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven Wayne; his parents; one sister, Joy; and several brothers-in-law.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Karen (Michael) Firmin; son, Mark (Debbie) Tuttle; six grandchildren, Ruthie and Sarah Firmin, Kevin, Amanda, Kendra Tuttle, and Mary Perry; and three great-grand-daughters, Alexis, Ma-kayla and Kenisha. He is also survived by four brothers, King (Shirley) Tuttle, Glenn (Helen) Tuttle, both of Greenview, Howard (Linda) Tuttle, David (Deby) Tuttle, both of Springfield; five sisters, Betty (James) Kin-ney of Salvisa, Ky., Margaret Hopkins of Ft. Col-lins, Colo., Bonnie (Ted) Mann of Edina, Mo., Ger-aldine Karrick of Linn Creek, Mo., and Linda (Kennie) Walker of Apache Junction, Ariz; two aunts, Erma Sturm and Marilyn LaMaster; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation was accorded by Allen Funeral Home prior to memorial services held at Crossroads Southern Baptist Church, Apache Junction, Ariz, before returning to Ill.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m., Mar. 8, 2013, at Cherry Hills Baptist Church, 2125 Woodside Rd, Springfield, where a Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Cherry Hills Baptist Church Building Fund, or Washington Street Mission, 408 N 5th St, Springfield, 62702, or to donor's choice.
