I knew Alison as a sister non-Latina Spanish speaker and teacher. She also investigated the Baha'i Faith, attending more than a few firesides to learn about the faith.
Her stories as a world traveler and our mutual love for life here on Fidalgo Island connected us.
With my appreciation for what she brought to my life, and sincere condolences to her family.

I worked with Alison from 2003 to 2011 at Skagit Valley College. She was my mentor when I started at the college and she taught me so much. She was a fantastic human being and person that could light up a room with her presence. Alison, you will be missed.

Alison changed my life. This is no exaggeration. I have always wanted to teach history. I had completed my course work and thesis in history at WWU. I picked up a few classes at Whatcom CC but they told me I needed my MA before they would give me anymore classes. I still needed to fulfill my language requirement in Spanish, the last part of my degree program. I had failed the graduate language exam an embarrassing 5 times! My dream to teach history was fading fast. I needed to get that language requirement completed. I even considering going to chef school but that wasn't what I really wanted to do. My ardent desire, my calling really was to teach history. Alison heard of my situation, stepped up and arranged an independent study class at SVC, which I passed! I finally earned my MA after fulfilling WWU's language requirement. I have been teaching history now for 30 years, 29 of those at SVC. I simply wouldn't have accomplished my dream without Alison's gentle instruction, kindness, and caring.

I met, Alison during one of her Spanish classes at her studio in, Mount Vernon, WA. We became fast friends. She is one of the kindest people I´ve had the honor to meet. She made learning fun. Her warm, bright smile always left me better than she had found me. She was a unique one of a kind individual that touched many lives. People were always better for having known her. She leaves us with a large footprint on our hearts. I will miss seeing her bright light but feel blessed to have known her.
