Allen Doolittle Obituary

Valley - Allen Charles Doolittle, Jr, (lovingly known as "Butch,") passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025.

Born to Allen Charles Doolittle, Sr. and Hattie Bell Evans on December 14, 1941, Butch started farming before he could see over the steering wheel of his father's Fordson tractor. Butch loved plowing fields and planting strawberries on the family's 80-acre farm north of Sedro-Woolley.

When he wasn't farming you could find him fishing for trout along Doolittle Creek or the Samish River. When his dad sold the family farm, Butch helped his parents pay rent in town by delivering newspapers, a route which multiple kids had to take over when Butch moved on.

As a young man, Butch got drafted into the army where he gained a reputation for boxing, He was also one of the top two shooters on the target range. He later returned home to Sedro-Woolley to run a dairy farm for the retired owner on Utopia Rd. Butch eventually had to make the hard choice between driving to Seattle to box or staying home to milk cows. He chose to continue farming on the Utopia Dairy, one of many he would eventually own. When he wasn't in the milk parlor, he was on the tractor baling hay all across Skagit Valley. When chores were done, he could be found partying at night and making friends, after which he'd squeeze in three hours of sleep before doing it all again.

In the early 90s he bought the Ranch Tavern in Acme, WA, serving steak and prime rib while running two farms and logging in his spare time. In 2005 he sold out and bought another Dairy in Yakima County, where he stayed for nearly a decade. Butch eventually 'retired' to a Ranch in Spokane Country where he started raising beef cattle. He spent his final years on a quiet valley farm in Stevens County, where he cut hay, fed cows and wished to stay until his final day.

Butch will be remembered for providing for his family, for his indomitable spirit, his fiercely playful humor, and for being a work machine that never stopped, that couldn't stop. He was also very giving to those in need, whatever it may be.

Butch Doolittle is survived by his wife, Sandra Doolittle; his siblings, Nancy Hutcheson and Alene Bertran; his children, Jody Doolittle and Deanna Ekkelkamp (and her close family friend, Duane Young); and his granddaughter, Eveliana.

A Graveside service will be held at 1:00, on Sunday December 14, 2025 at Saxon Cemetery in Acme, WA. Friends and family are invited to attend.
