BRIAN HERNANDEZ Obituary

Brian, 21, of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, as a result of complications from acute leukemia.

Brian was born on April 26, 1990, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. He grew up in Burlington where he was a Boy Scout and played soccer and baseball.

Brian graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 2008, where he excelled in the DECA program, competing in national competitions. He had recently completed his Associate of Arts Degree at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham and planned to attend Central Washington University to pursue a degree in business.

Brian enjoyed music, video games, target practice and fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family.
Brian was a kind and gentle man. He was a friend to all and always saw the best in people. He was quick with a smile and a hug and always rooted for the underdog.

Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mercedes and Morris Hernandez and his uncle, Mike Hernandez.

He is survived by his mother, Barb Dahlstedt of Burlington; father, Jim Hernandez and fiancée Gale Jensen of La Conner; brother, Travis Hernandez of Burlington; step-sisters, Elizabeth and Katherine Jensen of La Conner; grandparents, Pat and Norm Dahlstedt of Burlington; aunts and uncles Gary and Kate Dahlstedt, Ken and Flo Dahlstedt, Morris and Val Hernandez, Ron and Cheryl Hernandez, Jerry and Annie Hernandez, Tony and Margie Hernandez, Ken and Belinda Torseth, Lionel and Samantha Hernandez, Mike and Anita Roozen and Susan Hernandez; and numerous cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Burlington Lutheran Church, 134 E. Victoria. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

A celebration of Brian's life will follow at the Swinomish Yacht Club in La Conner.

Memorials may be made to the Burlington-Edison Education and Alumni Foundation, P.O. Box 350, Burlington, WA, 98233, to support a scholarship in Brian's memory.

My dearest Brian,

It seems as if too many people are leaving this world too soon. There is not one memory of you that is negative: always with a big smile on your face and a warm embrace ready for anyone who would take it. I'll never forget my Junior year (Travis' Senior, your Sophomore) where I was at your house nearly everyday - from that point on, you always called me "sis" and it warmed my heart. Never have I met someone as quick to love as you, my friend. You have such a kind soul, and I am sure you will win all the ladies over up there.

Until we meet again, take it easy, and watch out for your brother.

Brian I wouldn't see you very often but when I did, we would talk about everything and anything for who knows how long. You always knew how to make me laugh by just being yourself. I'm sorry that everything was cut so short, you were an amazing person. You always seemed to be the life of the party, and that's why people loved you. You will truly be missed. I'm not going to say goodbye, because I know I'll be seeing you again. We miss you Brian!

I've known Brian since my eighth grade year and he has always been a great person to have around. He's help talk me through a lot and always knew how to bring a smile to my face, even in the worst of situations.. He truly was an amazing person from the inside out and always knew just what to say to get someone to laugh. He never once was disrespectful or out to hurt anyone. His heart was as kind as could be and I'm going to miss him dearly. My prayers go out to his family! This kid is going to be missed from so many different people and it's not fair that it happened to someone so loving and caring as Brian! We all love you Brian, even your cute little Button! (My daughter June Marie Hendricks) You will always be in our thoughts and prayers! A day will not pass where we won't think about you! Until we see you again, God Bless and may you watch over all of us! Love you FB! Love Always Lindsey Leigh-Anne Croley! <3
