EVELYN CLIFT Obituary
She was born July 13, 1915 to Samish Island pioneers, Maude Dever Hopley and Harvey L. Hopley.
After completing first grade on the island, she was educated at Edison Elementary and High School, graduating in 1933. Two weeks later she entered nursing school at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, where she earned her R.N. degree in 1937. She worked in Bellingham, Burlington, and Seattle hospitals, as well as in Port Townsend and Bremerton.
Evelyn married Dwight A. Clift (Jack) on September 2, 1939.
During Jack's military career, they lived in San Diego, CA ; Norfolk, VA; Bath, ME; Boston, MA; and other interesting areas. Upon Jack's retirement, they returned to Evelyn's birthplace, Samish Island. It was a happy day when they were blessed with son Michael, who came to them on April 30, 1949.
In later years, Evelyn continued to work in doctor's offices and nursing homes. Evelyn loved the Lord and was eager to share the Good News with others, especially the children of Samish Island where she taught Sunday School for many years at Samish Island Memorial Chapel. Evelyn and Jack moved to Sedro-Woolley in 1986, and she had resided at Country Meadow Village since 2007.
She was preceded in death by her parents in 1979 and 1988; by her husband, Jack in 1988; son, Michael in 2006; sister, Madeleine Blanton in 2007; brother, Harvey Hopley in 2010.
A graveside service will be held at Bay View Cemetery on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at Samish Island Memorial Chapel at 12 noon.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.
