GERHARD FRIEDRICH WILHELM MEYER

1929 - 2015

Gerhard Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer passed away peacefully on April 4, 2015 at 10:14 pm in Stanwood, WA.

Born on May 30, 1929 in Luedingworth, Germany to Christian Friedrich Wilhelm and Sophie Meyer.

Let's begin by saying he moved to the Skagit Valley with his wife Ingrid in 1984 and built the amazing Cascade Mountain Inn where they entertained guests and friends from all over the world for 10 years. It was a place of harmony and nature and really good food. He very much loved the Birdsview Volunteer Fire Department and was active there for many years.

For 30 years Gerhard worked for Carnation Milk building can factories all over the world and this took him and his family to live in the Philippines, Brazil, Peru, Scotland, Philippines again, and finally to Los Angeles. They made their move to the Skagit Valley in 1984 after coming to this beautiful area many times on camping visits.

He is survived by his wife, soulmate and friend Ingrid Meyer, his son Harm and his wife Laura and son Dirk and his wife Karen, 7 grandchildren; Heather Meyer, Holly Meyer Lucas and husband Ed Lucas and great grandson Rhodes Lucas, Hailey Meyer, Kurt Meyer, Kohl Meyer, Keira Meyer, Kian Meyer, and his two sisters living in Germany. He loved his family very much.

Gerhard led a full and eventful life. He used to love working on car engines and rebuilding them as he was a true engineer at heart. He used to love installing anything including sprinkler systems because it was his true nature to construct things. Gerhard was always positive and easy to laugh and loved being sarcastic to those he called friends. Sometimes his humor would result in Ingrid having to "translate" to those around. Gerhard loved his horses and riding in the Cascades with his trusted dog Kaiser; who waits for him in heaven so they can ride again! Always ready to support his family and friends , Gerhard could be counted on to be a helping hand whenever anybody needed it. His family will miss him, but are grateful for his peaceful departure.

At the wish of Gerhard, a private ceremony will be held.
