Howard Anderson Obituary

Mount Vernon - Howard Anderson, a devoted husband, loving father, and retired math teacher, passed away peacefully on October 7th which was his 97th birthday.

Howard was married to his beloved wife Mary for 67 years. Together they built a life full of love, family, laughter, and travel. Their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Born on a farm in North Dakota in 1928, Howard grew up with strong Midwestern values that stayed with him throughout his life-hard work, humility, humor and an unshakable kindness. He went on to dedicate his career to education, sharing his love of mathematics with generations of students at Skagit Valley College.

Howard is survived by his children Holly, Mark, Neal, and Laura; grandchildren Jace, Amy, Marcy, Regan, and Evan; and great-grandchildren Dean and Emerson. His family was his greatest joy.

In retirement, Howard and Mary embraced travel, especially enjoying their winters as snowbirds in Arizona, by exploring the Southwest in their RV. He loved golfing, long road trips, and quality time spent with family and friends. His patient demeanor and gentle wisdom made him a comforting presence to everyone around him.

Howard's legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Skagit Valley College Foundation. See www.kernfuneralhome.com/obituaries for more information.

Had the extreme pleasure of having Mr. Anderson as a math teacher in 1966-67 at Skagit Valley College. He was a great teacher and communicator. He would talk about math relationships but didn´t help find the solution. He wanted his students to find the answer. Condolences to his family. Thank you Howard for making math fun and enjoyable. You will be truly missed.

I came to Mr. Anderson's algebra class because I had done so poorly in algebra in high school, and I wanted to conquer the subject and my fear of it. Mr. Anderson showed me how algebra worked, and I attained an "A" in his class. For that, he has been one of my heroes ever since. He was a very kind man, and a very good teacher.
