J.T. MATHIS Obituary


J.T. Mathis was born on May 30, 1935 in Sylva, North Carolina to Theodore and Nora Mathis.

He passed away at home on April 6, 2014, in the arms of his wife, of almost 51 years, Darlene.

J.T. joined the Army in December of 1953 and served until February of 1962, spending three years of that time in Korea.

J.T. spent most of his time logging, then worked for years selling logging supplies. He was always happiest running with his hound dogs.

J.T. was involved in the Loyal Order of the Moose and enjoyed the fellowship of those members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Susan Coggins; brothers, Alvin, Raymond and Clifton; son, John; and a special brother-in-law, Richard Stephenson.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; brother, Cletus (Carol) of Packwood; sisters, Barbara Kales (Leslie) of Birdsview, Yvonne Bennett (Del) of Sedro-Woolley, Ella Jean Mathis of Sedro-Woolley; sister-in-law, Reta Stephenson of Sedro-Woolley; daughter, Judy Buckley of California; grandchildren, Robin Buckley of Salkum, Christopher Buckley of Centralia, John and Kimberly Mathis of Morton; great-granddaughter, Shelby Craggen and great-grandson Brayden Barney (due any day); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the First Church of God in Morton. A potluck will follow.

The family request no flowers, please.
