Dear Lealani and David,
I happened to be passing through Anacortes on a camping trip in July and saw that John had passed away. I wasn't able to stay for the service, but wanted you to know that I was thinking of you and your family at this time. John always had a big smile on his face whenever he came into the station and brightened up the day for me. Your family was always very kind to me and I still think of you often. I wish you all peace and comfort in your time of loss.

Dear Friends,
It was such a joy for Evan to make contact with John when he did a report for his middle school family history project and interview him about his experiences as the crew chief for his grandfather, Charlie and their race car. Because Evan never had the chance to meet his grandfather, it was a thrill to hear John's stories--some of them none of us knew! Later, when Evan was racing a sprint car at Skagit Speedway where John and Charlie had raced fifty years before, John and Dave were kind enough to come up and root him on from the stands. It was a thrill that Evan will never forget. We all remember John as a complete gentleman who loved his family and all life. Our hearts are with you all.
