Marita Holmstrom Young

1935 - 2008

Marita Holmstrom Young, 73, of Anacortes, Washington, died Monday, September 8, 2008 at home, due to causes of a seven year struggle with cancer.

She was born March 19, 1935 in Kristianstad, Sweden, the daughter of Allan and Helen (Sonesson) Holmstrom. In 1957 she married Eldon Larson Young in Salt Lake City, Utah. They resided in Bountiful, Utah until December 1968 when they moved with their children to Anchorage, Alaska.

In September 1992, after both she and Eldon retired, they moved to Anacortes, Washington where they built their dream home. Marita loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling and being outdoors, be it gardening, camping, fishing or boating.

In 1974, along with Eldon, they formed Marita Enterprises, a marine sales and service business, which grew over the years and now operates as Marita Sea & Ski. She was known for her "green thumb" and many enjoyed her beautiful gardens and flowers. Marita was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and during her life served faithfully in many different callings.

Marita was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Eldon, daughter Charlotte Brown and her husband, Bob (Vancouver, Washington) and their children John (Heather), Stacy, and Jason (Rebecca) Scukanec, son Steven and his wife, Linnea (Denver, Colorado) and their children Daron, Anna, Kirstin, and Rebecca, daughter Linda Thomas (St. George, Utah) and her children Geoffrey, Monica, Emily and Erik, as well as five great-grandchildren, her sister, Dorothy Stark (Kimberly, Idaho), aunt, Edna Tegeborn (Hassleholm, Sweden) and uncle, Arne Sonesson (Solvesborg, Sweden).

For a number of years Marita was involved with various organizations seeking to find cures for cancer. Memorials may be made to the Island Hospital Foundation, the Lymphoma Research Foundation and the American Cancer Society. Services and burial will be in Bountiful, Utah.
