Helena, MT - Margie Lou Snell passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025 at the age of 91 in Helena, MT after a long battle with dementia.
Marjorie Lou Hoyt was born in Sedro-Woolley on April 14, 1934 to Raymond "Doc" Hoyt and Irene (Plummer) Hoyt. She attended Sedro-Woolley schools, participating in orchestra and cheerleading where she made lifelong friendships. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1953. Margie worked at Goss' Variety Store and Holland Drug after high school, and several retail positions throughout her life, finally retiring at the age of 80 from Macy's fine china & bridal department. Her favorite was at The Golden Rule in the old Skagit Valley Mall. She married the love of her life - Russ Snell - in 1956. Together they had 3 children and raised their oldest granddaughter in the first and only home they ever bought.
Margie was quite creative and could draw a caricature out of something as simple as a comment from someone! She drew and painted several oil paintings that family members are proud to hang in their homes. Margie (or Mimi, as she later became commonly known) was an avid reader and would oftentimes read several books at a time. In the later years, she would make little notes on the bookmarks so she would not lose track of who the characters were and what they were doing. Mimi wrote notes on everything and put dates on everything! A book she would give as a gift would have an elaborate dedication in the front cover, to be treasured "someday when I'm gone". Her handwriting was artwork in and of itself, so beautiful and delicate.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Russell Snell; both parents, Ray and Irene Hoyt, two nephews - Michael Hoyt and Kevin Hoyt, a great-nephew - Jara Hoyt, 2 brothers - Richard and Joseph Hoyt, a sister Judy (Hoyt) Allen, and a great-grandson Rowan DeChenne.
She is survived by her daughters: Caryl (Nick) Burroughs, Eileen (Ken) Robinson, Jo (Scott) Cruse, and granddaughter Andrea (Kelly) Frydenlund. Also, grandchildren Bo (Natalie) Robinson, Ashley Cruse, Kyle (Heidi) Burroughs, Caleb, MacKenzie and Madison Cruse, Madeline Burroughs and Ellie Cruse. Also, great-grandchildren Reagan Grinton, Kannon Frydenlund, Jack, Alaina, Ryker and Aksel Burroughs, Aengus Cruse and Kaylynn Robinson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and all the wonderful acquaintances she made over her years of working in retail.
Her service and will be held at Hawthorne Funeral Home on Friday, November 21st at 11:00AM with reception immediately following in the Hawthorne Reception Room. Interment at Union Cemetery at 2:30PM.
