RICHARD D. WEGERS

1934 - 2011

Richard D. Wegers, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, May 26, 2011.

Born on December 11, 1934, he was the third child born to Christian H. Wegers and Bessie M. (Gates) Wegers and attended school in Concrete graduating high school on May 28, 1953.

Though he lived outside the Skagit valley for brief periods throughout his lifetime, he spent the majority of his years in the upper valley and considered it his true home.

He worked as a sawyer in several of the local mills for much of his early life, as a cook and engineer on seismic boats in Alaska for several years and a carpenter/handyman both before and after he retired.

He enjoyed being in the outdoors camping, hunting and fishing and working on his house. He also enjoyed wood carving, and assisting in various community projects and was usually willing to lend a helping hand where needed, but was happiest when spending time with his family and friends.

He was a staunch republican and proud member of the NRA as well as a generous supporter of many charitable organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Bessie Wegers, a sister and brother-in-law, Cathrine and Dick Ramsey, a sister-in-law, Ethyl Wegers, and a daughter, Brenda, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his siblings, Donald Wegers of Kingsport, TN, George Wegers of Bellingham, and Nona Wegers of Bellingham; four daughters, Deanna Mitchell (Robert) of Birdsview, Pamela Dando (Kevin) of Concrete, Teresa Rogers (Brian) of Sedro-Woolley, Connie Trumble of Sedro-Woolley, and one son, Tracy Wegers (Karren) of Sedro-Woolley, sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

We invite those who knew and loved Richard to join us in a memorial celebration potluck picnic at Hamilton Heritage Park in Hamilton, WA on Sunday, June 6, 2011 at 2:00.
