Russell Johnson Obituary

Rockport - Russell C Johnson of Rockport, WA passed away on December 18, 2021 at 68 years of age. Russ was born in Mount Vernon, WA on August 20th, 1953 to Ray and Elsie Johnson. He was the last to arrive amongst his two triplet brothers and the youngest of six children.

His childhood resided on the family farm in Rockport where he had many fond memories, countless adventures and developed a work ethic that was proven to be unmatched later in life. He was beloved by those who knew him for his kindness, honesty, and endless generosity. He also possessed a special ability to draw a laugh and bring a smile to the faces of anyone that had the privilege of his interactions. Russ had many accomplishments in his life but there were a few that held a special place in his heart.

In 1971 the Johnson Family received acknowledgement as the Seattle P-I sports family of the year for the outstanding athletic achievements of 'The triplet backfield,' on the football field while attending Concrete High School. In 1976 while at a gathering with mutual friends he met a young lady that captivated his attention and left such an impression he shared with friends that night "I'm gonna marry that girl," much to their amusement. Perhaps he had the last laugh on December 16, 1977 in Edmonds, WA when he wed the woman of his dreams, Tammy, whom he spent the best 44 years of his life.

They proceeded to have two children together, a son Justin followed by their daughter Whitney. Russ was a family man first and foremost, he was a devoted husband and loving father. He never missed an opportunity to share a picture or a story of the family he was so proud of. Russ and Tammy made their home together in Brier, WA in 1977 while both working at the Lonestar Cement plant. In 1989 they were presented with the opportunity to go back home to the farm and he and his family took over the Old Johnson Farm homestead. There Russ spent his next 15 years raising cattle, organic blueberries and raspberries. He rounded out his employment history by spending the final 12 years of his career in the gas and oil field working for local pipeline construction contractors Snelsons and Michels. He set a high standard in physical performance that few could meet and never exceed. Accompanied by that was his ability to make light of any situation with laughter and a positive attitude will always be remembered by those who had the pleasure of joining him.

His interests included spending time with family and friends, playing cards, billiards, cornhole, watching sports, and gardening. He also enjoyed telling a good story amongst old friends.

Russ is survived by his wife Tammy Johnson; his adored children Justin Johnson and Whitney Johnson; siblings Ray Johnson Jr (Patti), Jan Johnson, Karen Kotecki (Mike), Robert Johnson (Nancy), sister-in-law Debi Abel; his granddaughter Harper Johnson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Elsie Johnson and brother Richard Johnson.

A celebration of life will be held for both Russ and his brother Richard at the Salt Box Barn at 17995 Fir Island Rd in Mount Vernon on January 22, 2022 at 1pm.

Russ was such a wonderful brother! So caring and tenderhearted as well as so much fun with a little craziness mixed in. He and Rich used to have contests seeing who could eat the most hot peppers out of a jar. Neither would give in...though they were sweating and red as beets! We had so much fun growing up together on the farm. I can't believe he is gone...a huge loss. Thank you to all of you who have shared so kindly.

Still unbelievable to know of the passing of Richard and now the shock of Russ leaving us too. Two very good men who along with brother Robert formed "The Triplets". It is hard to fathom this loss to their families, much less to their brother.
Carol Ann and I send our sincerest condolences to all. Know that so, so many will spend time with warm memories through tears of grief.

Dear Tammy, Whitney, Justin and family. I read with much sorrow the loss of your husband and father. If you don´t recognize my name, I worked at Cascade Dental. You all were some of my favorite patients. I remember the delicious blueberries and driving by the farm on our way over to Winthrop, always meaning to stop for a quick visit. So sorry we didn´t.
It was so much fun watching Justin and Whitney grow up. Tammy, I will always remember you fondly and again I am so very sorry for your loss.
With loving thoughts
Nancy
