Bow - Wayne Stewart Spiller, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in
Bow, Washington, on Monday, October 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne was born on April 28, 1944, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Robert and Lucille (Thomson) Spiller. He spent his early years in Penticton before moving to Port Coquitlam at age 13, and then to Fort Langley at 18. During his youth, Wayne was an avid athlete, enjoying hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and boxing. He also began learning carpentry alongside his father and grandfather, gaining valuable skills that he would carry with him throughout his life.
Wayne later transitioned into farming, raising both cattle and mink. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Bernice, a quiet young woman who often visited the horses and eventually crossed paths with the strong, hardworking young man who would become her husband. They married a little over a year later.
In 1975, their daughter Hazel was born, bringing joy and a new dynamic to life on the mink ranch. In 1981, the family moved to Edison (now Bow), Washington, where Wayne shifted careers and opened a meat packing plant. Their son Arthur was born in 1984, and with the growing family, Wayne moved them into a unique home designed by a local architect. In 1988, their youngest son, Robert, was born, completing the family.
After selling the packing plant in 1994, Wayne and his family moved just down the road to what would become his final home. In his later years, he found great joy in spending time with his two granddaughters, watching soccer and other sports, and enjoying old westerns especially Gunsmoke. In the end, he chose to be where he loved most: at home with his family.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Bernice Spiller; his brothers, Robert, Patrick and Mark (Missi) Spiller; his daughter, Hazel (Mark) Thomas and grandsons Dalton, Dakota, and Dillon (Brooke); his son, Arthur (Jamie) Spiller and granddaughters, Abby and Willa; his son, Robert Spiller; sister-in-law, Susan Spiller; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert P. Spiller; his mother, Lucille (Thomson) Spiller; his brother, Reginald Spiller.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Skagit Valley Healing Rooms, 343 Pease Road, Burlington, WA.
