John Gluth Obituary

John Gluth, 90, of Springfield died on January 26, 2021, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 6, 2021, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. Due to COVID-19, visitation will be a "walk through" visitation to avoid congregating or gathering inside the building. All who attend are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing guidelines. Service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. Please use the south door to enter and exit the church. The clergy will be Pastor Julie Smith. Interment will be at the Springfield City Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
John R. Gluth was born on February 7, 1930 to Walter and Margaret (Haeny) Gluth in Morgan. John graduated from Morgan High School in 1949. After graduating from high school, John enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 serving during the Korean War. On July 21, 1954, John was united in marriage to Mavis Radtke at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. John reenlisted in the Air Force serving from 1956-1960. Following his military career, John attended barber school in Minneapolis. The couple returned to Springfield where John worked as a barber and in excavation construction owning and operating Gluth Construction. He later worked in the maintenance and customer service departments at Sanborn Manufacturing retiring in 1992. After retirement, he joined the grounds crew working as a caretaker at the Springfield Golf Course. John was a member of the Springfield American Legion and St. Paul Lutheran Church. A few of John's favorite pastimes were deer and duck hunting, fishing, wintering in Arizona, golfing, watching the Minnesota Twins, golfing, gardening, wood working, and visiting with family and friends. Most of all, John loved being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved his family dearly.
John is survived by his children: Greg of Sleepy Eye; Jeff (Patricia) of Springfield; Lisa (Larry) Pelzel of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren: Travis (Kim) Gluth and their two sons Parker and Hayden, Lance Gluth and special friend Jenna Friton and their daughter Kristen, Brady Gluth and his special friend Stephanie Hernandez and their son Milo, Tabor (Ashley) Gluth and their daughter Mattie, Michael Gluth, Leslie (Shaun) Rodeberg and Baby Rodeberg due in May, and Taylor Pelzel and her special friend Collin Kerkhoff. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mavis in 2018; grandson Samuel Robert Pelzel; granddaughter Kristin Ann Gluth; and daughter-in-law Brenda Lee Gluth.
