David Moore Obituary

In the early morning of January 12, 2024, David D. Moore passed into eternity. He was the son of Dwight Moore (decd) and Mahree Moore (decd).

David was born in 1935 and was raised in Whitter, CA.  He grew up in a rural community and like most boys in the area loved to fish, trap and hunt.  After high school, he moved to Northern California in 1955 and attended Stanford University, where he majored in Biology with a minor in Engineering and played on the water polo team.  After attending Stanford, he was accepted into the College of Physicians and Surgeons in San Francisco, CA, later known as the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at University of the Pacific.

Following two years of active Naval duty, he opened a dental practice in San Mateo CA in 1962. He practiced in the city of San Mateo for 54 years while also serving as the President of San Mateo Dental Society and serving on its Board of Directors for many years.  He also was a former President of the Northern California Association of Endodontists and served as a Trustee of the California Dental Association.

Dr. Moore married his wife, Yvonne (née Walsh) in 1958. Their happy 65-year marriage produced 3 children that he adored: Victoria Moore DDS (Ronald Wu), Elizabeth Monroe MBA, CFA (Stephen) and David D. Moore Jr. DDS (Jessica). He is also survived by his brother Richard L. Moore (Patricia).

Dr. Moore loved his family, his profession, his colleagues in the San Mateo County Dental Society, motorcycle trips to Baja CA and anything with a motor (except a lawn mower).

He was known as a mentor, teacher and the consummate Mr. Fix-It. Dr. Moore was quite mechanically inclined and intellectually curious, having built the family's lake house, a dune buggy, a Model A Ford and countless motorcycles. He loved to free dive and scuba dive, with his passion for the latter leading him to build his own scuba regulator using instructions from a Popular Mechanics magazine.  As a teenager he and his brother spent a month on Catalina Island earning money by free diving to recover coins thrown by tourists from a glass bottom tour boat. He is also known as Jimmy Buffet's ultimate fan. He was a true parrot head and took in over 15 concerts, many in full parrot head regalia!

Dr. Moore is survived by 6 beloved grandchildren: Jordan & Cameron Wu, Griffin & Spencer Monroe and Wyatt & Sawyer Moore. He also leaves his much-loved in-laws, Joelle and James Conn, nephews James Jr. (Amy) & Michael J. Conn (Michelle), Richard J. D. Moore and niece Elizabeth Hammack, grand-nephews Michael F. Conn, James & William Hammack and grandnieces Matty Conn, Emma & Kate Hammack.

The family is most grateful to the extended Ramirez and Renderos families for the loving care they provided to Dr. Moore in the final months.

Rosary service begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 9 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 300 Alameda de las Pulgas, San Mateo CA.

If you wish to remember him with a donation, please consider the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry of University of Pacific, The St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Mateo County, or a Spiritual bouquet.

To the entire Moore family, especially his wife Yvonne, I want to send a warm greeting. It has been a few months since Dr. David has been resting. This day working regularly and without realizing it in a search I found this website where the day of his death is remembered.

David Moore was a human being with whom he taught me about love for others, tolerance, patience and also about innocence... during the care I gave him, I learned to be a better person and to value every sincere smile he gave me. .. we lived through many dramatic episodes that marked my life and taught me how vulnerable we as human beings are and also how valuable it is to take care of someone you love...

David Moore will live in my heart as a friend, the sadness that my heart What he went through when he fell asleep in death is still latent, but I am sure that he is in a better place and that I enjoy every moment of his life thanks to the love that we all give him... a hug to the family and may God bless you

While I did not have the pleasure of meeting Dr. Moore, I do live next door to his son David, daughter in law Jessica and grandsons Wyatt and Sawyer. They are a testament to Dr. Moore and his legacy. I have heard nothing but good things about Dr. Moore and wish I could have met him. My wife, Melanie, and I send our condolences and prayers.
