Edward Effner "Eddie" Bohn

Edward Bohn Obituary

Edward ("Eddie") Effner Bohn died peacefully at his home on Friday, July 28, 2023, exactly twenty-two years to-the-day after the death of his dear sister, Evelyn.

Born September 24, 1920 in Bristol, South Dakota, he was the first of three children of the late Effner Walter and Helen Marie (Sogn) Bohn.

Eddie is an alumnus of West High School in Denver, Colorado. He attended Denver University, where he was a proud recipient of a scholarship in vocal studies.

Ever since he was young, Eddie loved to sing and was honored to serve as a soloist at St. Mark Lutheran Church in San Francisco under the direction of organist and composer Richard Purvis.  He greatly valued the friendships he developed with several choirs, most recently with the First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame.

Playing the violin was among Eddie's many talents.  As a young man, he served as a violinist for the Denver Symphony Orchestra, performing in a variety of venues including Boettcher Concert Hall and at the opening of the Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Eddie had a lifelong love of automobiles and restored numerous classics.  As a boy he would stand on a street corner in Denver, where his family delivered newspapers, and name every car that passed before he could read or write.

Eddie also found joy in gardening, trips to Filoli Gardens, and dining out with his wife Doris.

He worked for more than forty years with Stone & Youngberg (now Stifel) of San Francisco until he was 82 years old.

Eddie is survived by Doris Bohn, his wife of many years, as well as his sister Marcella, his son Edward Jr., granddaughters Heather and Kristen, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Eddie is fondly remembered by many and will be missed by all.

A memorial service has been scheduled for early September.  For time and location, contact First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame at 650-342-0875.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mission Hospice (66 Bovet Road, San Mateo, CA  94402; 650-554-1000) or First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame (1500 Easton Drive, Burlingame, CA  94010; 650-342-0875).

Mr. Edward Bohn was the father of Eddie Jr. who I had gone to school with. Mr. Bohn was a strong influence in my life growing up and I often thought of him warmly.

Mr. Bohn was like the Rock of Gilbrator.
