David Steis Obituary

David "Dave" G. Steis, 60, a native and longtime resident of Ridgway, went home to the Lord on the afternoon of Saturday, December 6, 2025, after a brief stay in Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
In Hebrew, David means "beloved", and that's exactly how he was and will forever be received by friends and family. He was a graduate of St. Leo's Catholic School in 1979 and Ridgway Area High School in 1983. He was a dual sport athlete for the Mighty Elkers football program as well as the former Elkers track and field team. He went on to further his education at Triangle Tech and earned a trade degree in carpentry. He earned his degree while working full-time and was awarded Most Outstanding Student and a 4.0 grade-point average.
He was known as the family's handyman and could fix seemingly anything. Dave was also a talented artist who completed beautiful stained glass and wooden pen projects for those he loved. In addition to his handyman skills and artistic abilities, Dave was also a very hard worker in manufacturing for many years until health issues impacted his life. Despite these hurdles, he met these life challenges head on and worked to deliver the best life he could for his family and to be an uplifting friend to those in need.
His free time was spent hunting, fishing, geocaching, volunteering, playing pool, watching the University of Oklahoma Sooners and Pittsburgh Steelers football teams, and spending time with his family and friends. His quick wit and dry sense of humor, featuring signature one-liners, was adored and embraced by many. Even in serious moments, Dave always knew how to crack a joke and bring a laugh to those who knew him best.
Born on May 16, 1965, he is the son of the late Jared "Jerry" Steis and Joyce Eaton Steis, who survives. He is also survived by his older sister, Susi, and older brother, Jeff (Marcia). He will forever be the proud father of seven surviving children, Amelia (Jeremy Kephart), Krista (Wally Wolfe), Tiffany "Phyn", Nichole, Alexa, David Michael "Mikey", and Delaney. He was also blessed to become a grandfather to Robert, Cohbey, Shinoah, Aryana, Carl, Aydon, Lucas, Clare, Walter, Edyvin, Deacon, and Sapphire. He also became a great-grandfather recently to Elijah, Kegan, and Thyri. In addition to this immediate family, he was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews.
To all the healthcare workers who helped care for Dave in the Pennsylvania Highlands Healthcare, Allegheny Health Network, and independent healthcare professionals, thank you for your genuine care for Dave over the years. Donations can be made to the Penn Highlands Hospital Community Nurses, Allegheny General Hospital's Cardiac Unit, or St. Leo's School.
Funeral arrangements are private at the request of Dave and his family. Burial will be at Oakmont Cemetery.
