John J. Hand Jr.

1935 - 2026

John J. Hand Jr., 90, of Kersey, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born on November 28, 1935, in DuBois, PA, the son of the late John J., Sr. and Melva Lockyer Hand.
 On April 27, 1957, in Force, he married Janice Celinski, who survives. Together they shared 68 years of marriage.
John was a graduate of DuBois High School, Class of 1955 and proudly served in the United States Marines. He joyfully devoted 27 years of his career to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. After his retirement from the PA Department of Health, he remained active in the workforce, bringing with enthusiasm to CNB Bank and Metaldyne. Known as a true jack of all trades, John found joy in building, fixing cars, and lending a helping hand whenever needed.
John loved to spend his leisure time in the great outdoors, engaging in activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and boating, which brought him immense joy and relaxation. He was passionate about spending time with his loving wife, Janice. Their bond was a source of joy, and he could always be seen beaming with pride in her presence. Together, they created a life filled with cherished memories, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. John and Janice were known for their infectious energy and passion for dance, always the first on the floor and the last to leave.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol Hand of Florida and Brenda (Michael) Short of Kentucky, two sons, Kenneth (Pam) Hand of Penfield and Phil Hand of Kersey, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 grand fur babies. He is also survived by one sister, Melva Hollepeter of St. Marys, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters; Dorothy Place, Mildred Shaffer, Virginia Stitt, and Betty Siviak, by a brother; James Hand, and a by great grandson; Leeland.
Funeral Services for John J. Hand, Jr. will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Krise Funeral Home, 339 Main Street, Kersey, PA, 15846.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Fox Township Burial Detail.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday at Krise Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until the time of Services.
