Finis McGraw Obituary

Finis McGraw, a devoted family man, proud veteran, and lifelong learner, passed away on November 20, 2025, in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was 78 years old.

Born on August 30, 1947, in Virginia, Finis grew up with a strong sense of purpose and commitment that would guide him throughout his life. A graduate of La Plata High School, he pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and later a Master's degree from George Washington University.

Finis served his country honorably as a medic during the Vietnam War. His service reflected his deep compassion and courage-qualities that remained central to who he was long after his military years.

Following his time in the service and his academic achievements, Finis built a life centered around family and community. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Jenkins Dean McGraw; his children Shana Eileen McGraw and Finis Daniel McGraw Sr.; and his stepdaughters Amy Dean Kemp (Marvin), Jessie Dean Williams (Kinnon), and Jodi Dean Bykowski (Michael). He was a proud grandfather to Finis Daniel McGraw Jr., Veronica McGraw, Valerie McGraw, Kelly Flemming, Vincent Flemming, Mariellen Kemp Costabile (Dominic), William Kemp, James Kemp, Ashley Williams, Alex Williams, Jack Bykowski, and Kate Bykowski.

Finis was predeceased by his daughter Abigail McGraw Fleming and son-in-law Michael Flemming. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

An avid golfer, Finis found joy on the green. The game brought him both relaxation and camaraderie-a reflection of the balance he sought between discipline and enjoyment in all aspects of life.

Finis's legacy is one of service-to his country, to education, and most importantly to those he loved. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on January 6, 2026 at St. Ignatius Hilltop in Charles County, MD.
