Alan Jay Tudisco
April 30, 1949 - February 8, 2023
On February 8th, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children, Alan Jay Tudisco passed away in Sonoma at the age of 73. A quintessential family man, Alan was a very proud Italian/Sicilian and was the Father, Nonno, Godfather, Brother, and Uncle to a very large family who all thought he could walk on water.
Alan was born in Downey, CA, on April 30th, 1949, to Angelo Tudisco and Marjorie Capalbo. He was the oldest of seven children and the only boy.
He grew up in Palm Springs and attended Palm Springs High School where he met his future wife, Mary Mount. They were married in December of 1971 and married for 51 years. Upon graduation from college at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Alan and Mary ventured up north to Fall River Mills, CA, where Alan worked as a High School Teacher and Track Coach for 8 years. Alan loved teaching and coaching. He had the gift of connecting with anyone, and teaching allowed him the opportunity to leave an impression on many. It was during this time when he also began developing a love of architecture and construction and with any free time he had, he would work hard refining his skills in pursuit of making residential design and construction his new career.
In 1979, Alan and Mary moved to Tucson, Arizona, calling it home for the next 31 years. They worked side by side and grew the business, Town and Country Construction and Plaza West Builders, eventually building over 100 homes in Arizona, California, and Mexico. Even with the time spent running the business and the chaos of having five children, Alan sought every opportunity to coach many of the kids' sporting teams and never missed a school performance or recital. The desire to make the business successful was important, but it was always a distant second to the priorities of the family. Camping, spelunking, skiing, and hiking, were just a few of the many adventures he would take his kids and nieces and nephews on around the world, creating memories that will ultimately last generations.
Alan and Mary moved to Sonoma in 2010 to build a new home with their daughter who had recently moved from San Francisco. They immediately fell in love with the town and knew they'd never leave. In 2018, Alan started a new business, Ridge Design and Build, with three of his children. It was a full circle opportunity to do what he loved, but with a new generation who could learn from all of his experience. In a way, he returned to teaching. With a focus on working with local tradespeople and subcontractors, Alan became well-loved and respected by many in Sonoma.
As a person, Alan had many gifts. He was a talented teacher, architect, contractor, musician, athlete, coach, and an excellent cook. But his greatest gift, the one for which he gave the rest of the world, was how he would make people feel. When you met Alan, he made you feel like you were the most important person in the world. He was selfless and cared about everyone before himself. He was truly one of a kind.
Alan is survived by his wife, Mary Tudisco, son Aaron Tudisco (Sena), daughters Allegra Diggins (Joe), Karina Tudisco (Brian Garrity), Tessa Garcia (Jason), and Gina Carter (John), as well as 17 grandchildren, Isla, Leonardo, Callie, Gianna, Conor, Addison, Talan, Kyle, Karsen, Livia, Jackson, Nora, Berkley, Amelia, Mackenzie, Mason, and Weston, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and very close and dear friends.
Burial was at Valley Memorial Park in Novato followed by a Celebration of Life which included a New Orleans-style brass band.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to By the Bay Hospice and all the Nurses and Doctors who took such good care of him during his illness.
Donations in his memory can be made to the
American Cancer Society.
Life will never be the same.
