Jason McAleese Obituary

Jason Barry McAleese
September 29, 1965 - October 16, 2024
Jason McAleese, 59, passed away after a short illness on October 16, 2024 at his home in Sonoma. Jason was a lifelong resident of Sonoma and a 1984 graduate of Sonoma Valley High School. He was the son of Wanda McAleese and the nephew of Robert and Karen McAleese.

While at Sonoma Valley High School, he was a popular employee at Dowling Magnet and the Sonoma Mission Inn. Before moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to study theater arts, he was a highly regarded employee at Le Beau Market in San Francisco.

Jason was a dedicated learner who studied Media Arts at Santa Fe Community College, Art History and Liberal Arts at City College of San Francisco, Theatre training at American Conservatory Theater, Theater Arts and Psychology, and Technical Theater at Santa Rosa Junior College.

Between college studies Jason applied what he learned by using his studies in practice while working as a Computer Technician, Rigging Electrician, Lamp, Grip, and Dolly operator in the film industry as a member of Santa Fe's IATSE Local 480. Santa Fe was also the scene of one of his more memorable feats of athletic excellence when he defeated a member of the Chinese PLA Ping-Pong team in a local pub.

While traveling in his early years, he loved returning to and living in Sonoma. He was especially fond of the Tuesday Night Market and Jazz concerts, where he could visit friends and shop for the freshest vegetables and special ingredients that helped establish his reputation as a gourmet chef amongst his friends and family.

For the past ten years, Jason was his mother, Wanda's, full-time caregiver while she continued her fight against Multiple Myeloma.

He will be missed and remembered by his many friends across the country. Wanda is especially grateful for the overwhelming number of condolence letters and Facebook remembrances from his many friends.

A private service for family members will be held, and a public celebration of life will be announced at a later date. His family, friends, and everyone who knew him will deeply miss him.
