Jeanne O'Callaghan

Jean Louise O'Callaghan was born, raised and died in Sault Ste. Marie. She was well traveled, well educated and well connected but there was truly no place like home to Jeanne. She felt like the luckiest person in the world because she was able to build her life and career in the Sault. Her family was everything to her.
She is survived by her two sisters Betty Ann Suriano and Mary Jane McCaffery, eight nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Bailey. Jeanne graduated with a masters degree in education, taught school for many years and then started a second career with the Michigan Education Association. She made amazing lifelong friends who valued her work ethic, preparedness, integrity and abundant kindness. Jeanne hosted many beautiful and detailed parties cooking delicious food and desserts. She was a spectacular quilter, sewer, and crochet artist. She made beautiful stained glass pieces. In fact, she never met a craft that she couldn't stunningly conquer.
Jeanne kept a beautiful home on St. Marys River and cherished every detail of her life. The gardens she kept, the raspberries she grew and canned, the eagles that perched and the hummingbirds that fed in her backyard, the ships rolling down the river all met with her vision of perfection. Above all else, she treasured her family and friends. She was a gem in this world unique and loved beyond measure.
Memorial services will be held later in the Spring on May 26, 2018, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church at 11 a.m.
